Safety & Operating Practices

  • Reduce employee injuries by 15% from 2010.
  • No authority violations.
  • No FRA reportable derailments.
  • No on-track equipment collisions.
  • No Blue Flag violations.
  • No Electronic device violations.
  • Eliminate run-away car incidents caused by human error.
  • Reduce minor derailments by 50%.
  • Eliminate vehicle backing incidents.
  • Reduce severity index by 50%.

Security

  • Maintain 100% compliance with Transit Security Agency (TSA) regulations regarding passenger train and hazardous materials transportation.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations regarding port operations related to cruise ships and hazardous materials.

Financial

  • Generate a measurable increase in yield. On the freight side, improve average revenue per ton, per car and per train. On the passenger side, improve revenue averages per passenger, per car and per train.
  • Continue to diversify our customer and commodity bases on the freight side and our wholesale/travel agent customer base on the passenger side.
  • Continue to diversify revenue base with new revenue, either from new customers, new rates or new business from existing customers.
  • Maintain at least 100% funded status of pension and retiree medical trust funds.
  • Generate an Operating Ratio of 0.95 or better.

General

  • Complete initial phase of  implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Complete the accelerated Track Rehabilitation Program (TRP).
  • Implement replacement computer-aided dispatch system and begin preparation of wayside devices and data radios in test corridor from MP 114.7 through the Whittier Corridor. 
  • Develop a Corporate Succession Plan for all vice presidents and director positions. 
  • Based upon customer satisfaction survey and other data, develop programs to improve corporate image.
  • Manage facility energy use to 2009 levels.
  • Complete radio narrow banding effort by December 31, 2012.
  • In cooperation with Alaska Department of Transportation complete the update to the State Rail Plan.
  • Complete a long-term replacement strategy for both freight and passenger rail cars.
