Flagstop Rail & Susitna River Float
Tour Price: $169
Available Thursday-Sunday, Jun 1 - Sep 9, 2012. Advance reservations are required.
This is a rafting float tour for all ages. River beauty abounds on this tour. Learn about fauna and flora of the area. See spawning salmon, beaver dams, and bask in the ferns as they drape along the river’s edge. Possibly catch sight of bald eagles, fox, moose, black bears, and grizzly bears.
You will be transported from the village of Talkeetna by rail just north of Chase. Then you will float along on the Susitna River, a glacially fed river, which offers the opportunity to hear the glacial silt “flour” as it brushes along the sides of the raft.
Weather permitting views of Mt. McKinley and the Talkeetna Mountains are breathtaking. Stops along the way offer enhancements of folklore, wildlife tracking, and a time to share in the abundance of natural history, and walk on a glacial silt island. Susitna means “River of Sand”, so named by our local Alaskan natives.
Includes: Lunch, trail mix & 6-pack cooler souvenir
