ANNOUNCEMENTS / EVENTS
The Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) will suspend the 2008 Public Open Houses in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Typically held in May, the railroad's open house events will resume in 2009.
Increased construction activity on the Ship Creek Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) project precludes holding an open house at the Historic Ship Creek Depot this year in Anchorage. Due to logistical and resource planning common to both open house events the railroad decided to suspend the Fairbanks Open House as well.
"This was a hard decision to make and one we didn't take lightly but completing this Ship Creek Intermodal project in a timely manner means a better venue to hold future events," said Pat Gamble, President and CEO. "We are going to miss this year's events as much as our rail fans will but come 2009, we'll be ready and welcoming everybody back."
The 2008 Alaska Railroad Emergency Response Whistle Stop Tour marks the third year that the railroad and partners will bring emergency preparedness and response training to communities along the railroad track - at no charge!
The Whistle Stop train is set to roll into 10 railbelt communities from March 31 through April 12, equipped to offer practical information and instruction aimed at preventing and preparing for a variety of emergency situations. The tour begins in Seward, with subsequent stops in Whittier, Palmer, Wasilla, Talkeetna, Healy, Nenana, Clear AFS and Fairbanks. The last stop is Anchorage.
