EMAIL UPDATE: Early Saturday morning, Alaska Railroad track maintenance crews began repair of the main line track that was damaged when a military C-17 cargo aircraft crashed on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Freight train service was restored on the main track by early evening on Saturday. Due to continuing accident investigation and site recovery operations, passenger trains continued to bypass the area by motorcoach over the weekend. Passenger train service through the base was restored this morning (Monday), beginning with the northbound Denali Star train departing Anchorage about 8:30 a.m., heading to Denali/Fairbanks.
