The Real Alaska Tour

Tour Price: Adults $143.50, $81.50 child + rail fare
Available May 18 to Sep 16, 2012

This is by far the best way to see Seward in a day.

First, take in the fascinating history and breathtaking beauty as your guide shows you the sights of Seward, known as 'The Gateway to Alaska' and 'Mile 0' of the Ididarod Trail. See first-hand the effects of the 1964 Earthquake; and stand in awe of the mountain that is home to the second oldest foot race in the USA. Then, head out to Exit Glacier in the Kenai Fjords National Park.

Enjoy a short stroll along the nature trail that leads you to the face of the glacial ice. Watch for mountain goats, moose, or bear on the mountainside; and during the salmon runs, you will be able to see salmon swimming upstream to spawn.

Before you travel and experience IdidaRide's 1.5 hour Wilderness Dog Sled Ride and Tour at the Seavey homestead, you will stop for a hearty lunch at the Resurrection Roadhouse. The Seavey homestead is a summer training site for the 2004 Iditarod Champion, Mitch Seavey and several other Iditarod mushers.

Here you will enter the world of sled dogs. Visit with their Alaskan Huskies and travel along a 2 mile trail* to the base of Resurrection Mountain with your musher who narrates the ride. Learn more about the Iditarod during the demonstration of the unusual arctic equipment and clothing. Pose for photos with sled dogs and hold husky puppies.

*The 2-mile ride is in a wagon that is pulled by the dogs. The road is not paved, and is bumpy. At the end of this fun-filled day, your driver will return you to your hotel, cruise ship or the Alaska Railroad depot.

This tour is fully guided by a long-time Alaskan, and all expenses are included.
