Ascending Path Rock Star Ice Climbing Spencer Glacier

From Girdwood, take a 20-minute helicopter ride to Spencer Glacier where you will land and get out to start your hike. At the glacier’s edge you gear up with helmets and crampons. Your skilled and experienced climbing guide teaches crampon use as you travel onto the glacier ice to explore amazing ice features (blue ice, ice caves, crevasses, moulins, etc).

Several hours are spent exploring the glacier. On the walk back, you will hike from the glacier, off trails and on trail along Spencer Lake while enjoying outstanding scenic views of the glacier and icebergs floating in the lake.

The total distance from the edge of the glacier to the Whistle Stop is about 3 miles of flat Forest Service maintained trails. Your day includes many photo and rest stops to learn about the interesting local wildlife, history, and glaciology.
