Our Scenic Rail Tours are designed for the fully-independent traveler. Tours are unescorted unless otherwise specified.

Full payment is required within 72 hours of booking.

LATE BOOKINGS

Late bookings (within 35 days) require a minimum of 24 hours to confirm availability. Full payment is required at the time of booking.

ONLINE BOOKINGS

Policies for Online Bookings are the same for regular bookings at this time. Users booking online will be prompted to accept the cancellation and amendment rules before finalizing a reservation.

CANCELLATION & CHANGE FEES

Changes made to a confirmed reservation are subject to a change fee.

Any charges incurred by the Alaska Railroad as a result of changes made by the customer will be applied to the booking in addition to the change fee.

Cancellation fees apply to the gross value of the booking. Change fees apply only to the value of the altered segment. No fees apply to changes that increase the cost of the booking.

  • Packages:(Includes hotel and /or non-rail tours) 36+ days before travel: 10% fee 0-35 days before travel: Non-changeable, non-refundable
  • Rail Only: 8+ days before travel: 10% fee 7 days or less before travel: Non-changeable, non-refundable
  • No refunds will be issued for unused services.

CANCELLATION INSURANCE

We strongly recommend that you purchase trip cancellation insurance so you can plan your travel with complete peace of mind. Ask your Alaska Railroad reservations agent for a travel insurance quote and about the available plans.

ACCESSIBILITY

We are pleased to provide wheelchair lifts at all stations. Accessibility on other connecting modes of transport can vary, so please check with an agent for details.

Alaska Railroad’s passenger trains are wheelchair accessible and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Service animals are welcome aboard.

SECURITY

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires that any Alaska Railroad passenger 18 years of age or older must present a photo ID issued by a government authority, or two other forms of ID, one of which must be issued by a government authority.

SCHEDULES AND FARES

Delays can occur with rail service. We recommend that you allow a minimum of four hours between rail arrival and air departure.

The Alaska Railroad will not be responsible for missed connections. Schedules, fares, and tours are subject to change without notice.

DOCUMENTS

Available by mail for all bookings received 35 days or more prior to travel date. For all bookings confirmed under 35 days, documents will be available at the train station prior to departure.

BAGGAGE

Alaska Railroad passengers are allowed two pieces of checked baggage and one carry-on. Two extra pieces of baggage (for a total of four) may be checked for an additional fee. No single piece may weigh over 50 lbs.

A special handling fee of $20 per bag applies to oversized bags, bicycles, and other recreational equipment. All firearms must be declared and checked through baggage.

The firearm must be either disassembled (slide or bolt removed) or have a lock (trigger or cable type) installed to prevent operation. Additionally, the firearm must be in a locked case.

Concealed weapons are not permitted onboard. Camping fuel, motor fuel and other hazardous items are not permitted on the Alaska Railroad, with one exception for the DMU to Spencer Glacier.

Animals must be transported in kennels in the baggage car.

Dog Kennels can be left next to the train upon disembarkation in Spencer, and picked up for your return.

Please carry medications with you as you will not have access to your luggage once you have checked your bags.

ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION

The Alaska Railroad will provide the best alternate service available in the event of unforeseen circumstances that may require any part of our service to be altered.

LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY

The Alaska Railroad Corporation acts only as an agent for its clients in securing reservations from the various non-affiliated hotels, transportation companies, sightseeing operators and other third parties and is in no way to be considered as the principal or operator of the services.

The Alaska Railroad Corporation shall have no liability for loss or damage to baggage or property, or for loss or additional expenses or inconvenience from delay due to acts or omissions of any third party carrier, hotel operator, restaurant or another supplier of services or facilities.

The Alaska Railroad Corporation reserves the right to cancel, substitute transportation, or alter for any reason, any rail trip or tour itinerary as current conditions, in the Alaska Railroad’s sole opinion, may require.
