The Hurricane Turn

The Hurricane Turn will also run in conjunction with these holidays:

  • Memorial Day (Monday, May 31, 2010)
  • 4th of July (Monday, July 5, 2010)
  • Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 6, 2010)

Ride one of America's last flag stop trains. The Hurricane Turn train has delivered Alaska locals to their remote cabins since 1923. On this wilderness run, get off the train anywhere along the 55-mile stretch: hike, fish, or journey to a remote cabin. When you are ready to return to civilization, you can stop the train on its return with the wave of a flag.

Or take the entire 115-mile route for a one-of-a- kind day trip. Starting in Talkeetna, the route threads its way along the Susitna River and through the Indian River Canyon. Learn More>>

Tickets are available for purchase onboard, however customers wishing to use credit cards must purchase tickets at the Talkeetna Depot or by calling reservations at 800-544-0552 or 907-265-2494.

There is no food service onboard. The train runs Thursday through Sunday in summer.

Departure is at 12:15 pm from the Talkeetna Depot, located at mile 13.5 Talkeetna Spur Rd. Transfers are provided from the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge. (Ticketed passengers may also board at the section house in downtown Talkeetna at 11:45am)

Note: The Hurricane Turn is a flag stop train and may run late depending on the number of stops. The train only stops in each location when passengers are getting on or off the train. In rare instances, it may not be possible to see the Hurricane Gulch area due to other trains operation schedules.

Additionally, no fuel is allowed onboard any Alaska Railroad train, including the Hurricane Turn.
