Alaska Railroad Open Houses - Return in 2023!

FAIRBANKS: Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ANCHORAGE: Saturday, May 6, 2023, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Alaska Railroad's community Open Houses have returned, just in time to celebrate the railroad's 100-year anniversary in 2023!  The Open House event provide Alaskans with a unique opportunity to interact with railroaders and to learn about the state’s railroad, offering train rides, static displays of railroad locomotives, and many more family-friendly activities. Event entrance, parking and train rides are ALL FREE, as are other activities and entertainment.

The last open house was held 2016 in Anchorage. Due to a challenging fiscal climate, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the railroad was forced to cancel open house events for several years. We are excited to offer free off-site parking and shuttle service to the 2023 Fairbanks Open House.

Alaska Railroad Annual Print & Poster Signings

Each year, the Alaska Railroad Corporation commissions an artist to produce artwork that is the basis for a limited edition print, poster and lapel pin and other gifts and materials. The annual Alaska Railroad artwork is a favorite among rail fans and Alaska art collectors. Near the end of the year, the Alaska Railroad typically hosts print and poster signings with the artist at multiple locations along the Railbelt.

For 2024, ARRC commissioned artist Riana Sather for the official commemorative posters/prints. The artwork features the all-women, Athabascan crew of section hands who worked near Cantwell in 1945. The public can meet Riana at two public sign-and-sale events scheduled for January 2024.

FAIRBANKS: Saturday, Jan. 13, 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the Fairbanks Railroad Depot at 1031 Railroad Depot Road.

ANCHORAGE: Saturday, Jan. 20, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. a the Anchorage Historic Depot at 411 W. 1st Avenue.
