PAYMENT: Full payment is required at time of booking when making reservations online (available for rail-only bookings only). When booking by phone or email: for rail-only or day trip reservations made 36 days or more prior to travel, ARRC offers a 72-hour courtesy hold; after 72 hours, ARRC requires payment in full, or the reservation will be released. Rail-only or day trip reservations made within 35 days of travel require payment in full at time of booking. For multi-day travel package reservations made 36 days or more prior to travel, ARRC offers a 72-hour courtesy hold. After the 72-hour hold, a nonrefundable payment of 10% of the gross booking cost is due, or the reservation will be released; the remaining payment is due in full 60 days prior to travel. Multi-day travel package reservations made within 35 day of travel require payment in full at time of booking. ARRC accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit cards.

LATE BOOKINGS: Package bookings that are made within 35 days require a minimum of 24 hours to confirm availability. Full payment is required at the time of booking.

REFUNDS: Adventure Packages and Day Trips that are canceled 36 or more days before travel will be refunded 90% of the booking value. No refunds will be issued 35 or less days before travel. No refunds will be issued for unused services.

Rail-only bookings that are canceled one (1) or more days before travel will be refunded 90% of the booking value. No refunds will be issued the day of travel.

CHANGE FEES: All paid bookings are subject to a 10% change fee. Changes are allowed on packages up to 36 days before travel and on rail-only bookings up to one day prior to travel. A “package” is any rail booking that includes a non-rail component. Change fees apply only to the changed value of the booking. No change fees apply when the change increases the cost of the booking. Changes to packages that include airline flights, or the Denali Backcountry Lodge or Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge, may incur additional fees. Any charges incurred by the Alaska Railroad as a result of changes made by the customer will be applied to the booking in addition to the change fee. TRAVEL INSURANCE: We strongly recommend that you purchase trip cancellation insurance so you can plan your travel with complete peace of mind. Ask your Alaska Railroad reservations agent about available plans and for a travel insurance quote.

CHECK-IN: Plan to check in one hour prior to the scheduled departure time. Reservations and seat assignments may be altered or reassigned if passenger and baggage are not checked in 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure. The Transportation Security Administration requires that any Alaska Railroad passenger 18 years of age or older present a government issued photo ID, or two forms of ID, one of which must be issued by a government authority. Children ages 2 to 15 may only travel in the company of an adult 18 years or older.

BAGGAGE: Each ticketed passenger may check two (2) pieces of luggage when traveling aboard the Alaska Railroad, and up to four pieces aboard the Aurora Winter Train (policy may not be applicable for charters). Aurora Winter Train baggage service available in Anchorage and Fairbanks only. No single piece may weigh over 50 lbs. A special handling fee of $20 per bag applies to oversized bags, bicycles, animals checked in the baggage car and other recreational equipment. Firearms may be transported only as checked baggage and must be either disassembled (slide or bolt removed) or have a lock (trigger or cable type) installed to prevent operation, and must be in a locked case. Concealed weapons are not permitted onboard. Federal Railroad Administration regulations prohibit the transport of fuel, other than five liters or less of white gas per container in the bag car. No propane is allowed in bag cars. Kerosene and propane may be transported aboard the Glacier Discovery Train, which is outfitted with a special compartment; these fuels must be checked with the conductor at the time of boarding. LOST AND FOUND: Lost items will be held for 30 days. If you believe you have lost an item at the Alaska Railroad, please contact Lost-Found@akrr.com or 907.265.2576.

SCHEDULES AND FARES: Delays can occur with rail service. Do not book your rail arrival and air departure on the same day. The Alaska Railroad will not be responsible for missed connections. Schedules, fares and tours are subject to change without notice.

DISCOUNTED FARES: As a provider of regularly scheduled public transportation, the Alaska Railroad offers U.S. military 20% off published retail rail fares. Additionally, we offer college student discounts including a new College Multi-Ride Pass for students attending Alaska colleges and universities. The Alaska Railroad Corporation offers a Half Fare Program for Seniors (65+), Medicare card holders, and individuals with certain disabilities, allowing these individuals to travel for half fare during non-peak times: September 26, 2023 through May 5, 2024 (non-summer months). ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION: The Alaska Railroad will provide the best alternate service available in the event of unforeseen circumstances that may require any part of our service to be altered.

ACCESSIBILITY: We are pleased to provide wheelchair lifts at all summer stations: Anchorage, Wasilla, Talkeetna, Denali, Fairbanks, Girdwood, Portage, Whittier, Spencer Glacier, Grandview, and Seward. Winter trains offer wheelchair lifts at Anchorage, Wasilla, Talkeetna and Fairbanks only. Accessibility on other connecting modes of transport can vary, so please check with an agent for details. Alaska Railroad’s passenger trains are wheelchair accessible and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: The Alaska Railroad Corporation acts only as an agent for its clients in securing reservations from the various non-affiliated hotels, transportation companies, sightseeing operators and other third parties and is in no way to be considered as the principal or operator of the services. The Alaska Railroad Corporation shall have no liability for loss or damage to baggage or property, due to acts or omissions of any third party carrier, hotel operator, restaurant or another supplier of services or facilities. The Alaska Railroad Corporation reserves the right to cancel, substitute transportation, or alter for any reason, any rail trip or tour itinerary as current conditions, in the Alaska Railroad’s sole opinion, may require.
