Tales from the Rails: A Storytelling Project

In 2023 the Alaska Railroad celebrates 100 years since the completion of its main line. Many Alaska residents and visitors have unique stories to share about the Alaska Railroad and we need your help to capture these anecdotes, memories and milestones to share our story. If you have them, please include photos with your submissions!

How to Submit Stories
If you have a story about the Alaska Railroad that you know should be part of our shared 100-year history, please email AKtalesfromtherails@gmail.com and we will be in touch to learn more.

*Selected story authors will be entered into a drawing to win prizes and centennial swag!

Story Submission Themes
As we know there are many amazing stories out there about the last 100 years, we narrowed our submission critieria to these three areas:
•    A first-person account of something unique that happened while riding on an Alaska Railroad train.
•    A story about a loved one who worked for or on the Alaska Railroad.
•    A hidden gem about the Alaska Railroad, its routes, or unique people who live nearby.
