Bears, Trains and Icebergs

From Anchorage, ride the Glacier Discovery Train along scenic Turnagain Arm to Girdwood where you’ll disembark for lunch and a tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center – guaranteed bear sightings! Re-board the train to continue on to the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop, where you’ll raft amid glacial icebergs. Return by rail that evening.

ALASKA WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CENTER

Take a short shuttle from the Girdwood train stop to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where you’ll see Alaska’s iconic animals up close. Enjoy a guided 1.5-hour tour—by foot or vehicle—featuring moose, bears, bison, foxes, and more. Afterward, your guide will transfer you to the Portage Train stop to continue your journey.

This 1.5-hour day trip includes:

  • Transportation from Girdwood Train and Portage depots
  • Tickets to Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
