There is no shortage of exciting adventures to explore each Alaska Railroad destination. The following tours can be paired with any winter train trip to create a custom travel itinerary; or, add/substitute these tours to an existing Alaska Railroad winter travel package of your choosing.

ANCHORAGE

Discover Denali Flightseeing
Depart from Lake Hood, the world's busiest seaplane base, for Denali National Park. Fly over Denali's lower peaks and get a view of the entire rugged length of Ruth Glacier then enter the Great Gorge and Ruth Amphitheater. 

Glacier & Wildlife Flightseeing 
Depart from the world's busiest seaplane base for the expansive Knik Glacier, 50 miles north of Anchorage. This route also includes flying over Colony Glacier to Lake George, which spills into the winding Knik Glacier Gorge. 

Matanuska Glacier Tour
Gear up with ice cleats for a guided exploration of Matanuska Glacier, Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road. Marvel at the four-mile wide, 27-mile-long river of ancient ice that formed thousands of years ago high in the Chugach Mountains. The day starts with a magnificent scenic drive along the Glenn Highway with stunning mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo stops. Upon arrival at the glacier, don ice cleats and helmets for approximately two hours of guided exploration of the glacier. Each day is unique, due to the dynamic nature of the glacier and the season. Includes lunch.

Turnagain Turn Tour
This full day tour from Anchorage includes a local guide, an aerial tram ride up Mount Alyeska, lunch in Girdwood, a 90-minute visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and scenic photo stops along the way. Sit back and enjoy the comfort of a sprinter van while Alaskan driver guides you down the Turnagain Arm. Visit Girdwood for lunch and an ascend up Mt. Alyeska via aerial tram then on to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a 200-acre wildlife sanctuary that provides wildlife education and quality animal care.   

Wildlife Guided Tour
This half-day tour from Anchorage includes a local guide, a tour of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and scenic photo stops. Look out for hanging alpine glaciers and wildlife as your guide take you down the Turnagain Arm. Tour the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a 200-acre wildlife sanctuary and get close enough to observe some of Alaska's land mammals.   

 

TALKEETNA

Talkeetna Dog Sledding
Experience Alaska's state sport on a five-mile guided dog sled tour through the groomed trails of Talkeetna's snowy boreal forest. 

Talkeetna Snowshoe
Explore Alaska's winter splendor with a naturalist guide. Look for wildlife, identify their tracks and learn about their unique winter survival traits. Marvel at the amazing landscape. Each trip and route is customized to you, from easy to strenuous. 

Denali Experience Flightseeing
Fly up to six miles from Denali's summit, then descend into the awe-inspiring Ruth Amphitheater and Great Gorge. View Tokositna and Ruth glaciers, gaze upon Mt. Huntington, hanging glaciers and the famous Moose's Tooth. 

Denali Grand Flightseeing
This flightseeing experience includes the Denali Experience plus the Flyer routes, letting you see all sides of Denali. You'll get an in-depth look at the routes used by Denali's first pioneers along with Peters, Muldrow and Traleika glaciers.

Arctic Circle Winter Air Adventure
Fly over the Yukon River Valley, and beyond, outside of the Gates of the Arctic National Park. Cross the Arctic Circle and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. Learn about the Brooks Range and see the Trans Alaska Pipeline. 

Arctic Circle Winter Drive Adventure
A guided round-trip journey by land across the Arctic Circle. View the remarkable Trans Alaska Pipeline, visit the Arctic Circle Trading Post, travel the Dalton Highway and experience the Yukon River. 

Aurora Dinner
